Adventuring through the Canadian Rockies

TLDR

📈 Market Recap: July 07, 2025

Indian markets were flat on July 7, 2025. The Sensex closed at 83,442.50 (+9.61 pts) and the Nifty50 at 25,461.30 (+0.30 pts). FMCG (+1.7%) and Energy stocks led gains on strength in HUL, Dabur and Britannia, while IT, Metals, Banks and Auto underperformed. Caution rose on US-India trade tensions after President Trump threatened fresh tariffs on “BRICS-aligned” nations, briefly pushing the rupee past ₹86/$ before the RBI stepped in.

Key Drivers:

  • US tariff jitters: Trump’s announcement of an extra 10% tariff on BRICS nations rattled investors and weakened the rupee to ₹85.

  • Sector trends: Defensive themes dominated as consumer stocks rallied. FMCG, staples and oil & gas outperformed, while tech and financials lagged.

  • External cues: Global markets were mixed; elevated US volatility kept flows cautious. Fed fund futures still price only a modest rate pause, supporting local yields.
